The Waterfront Director will plan, direct and supervise the camp’s waterfront program in accordance with GSUSA and ACA standards and state regulations, and will coordinate that program with total camp program.
Designs and conducts set up of waterfront area.
During pre-camp training, previews the rules and regulations and staff’s role in waterfront activities, including teaching staff their responsibility in an emergency.
Develops/carries out waterfront emergency plan. Holds emergency drills with campers/staff on regular basis.
Supervises and supports Assistant Waterfront Director and waterfront staff.
Writes lesson plans that will foster campers’ aquatic skills in relation to the Trail Master skill levels.
Teaches and monitors proper use of equipment. Conducts daily check of area and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair, and arranges for repairs, as needed.
Conducts initial and end-of-season inventory, and stores equipment safely.
Helps each camper meet the goals established by the camp for camper development.
Keeps records on all campers; helps them progress from beginner to advanced levels.
Evaluates aquatic ability of campers and staff.
Submits requisition for equipment and supplies when needed, ensuring timely arrival of materials.
Formally evaluates staff at least twice a season, and conducts other evaluations, as necessary.
Sets a good example for campers and others, including cleanliness, punctuality, sharing clean-up and chores, sportsmanship, and table manners.
Assists in supervising all assigned aspects of the campers’ day, including morning reveille, kapers, meal times, rest hour, evening activities, getting ready for bed, and after-hours duty, as assigned.
Recognizes and responds to opportunities for problem-solving in the group.
Evaluates current season, and makes suggestions for following season.
Encourages respect for personal property, camp equipment and facilities.
Other duties as assigned.
This is a full-time summer position and you will be required to live on site, meals and lodging are provided.
Camp Pondicherry is located on 700 acres in the foothills of the White Mountain, minutes from the town of Bridgton.
Acceptance of and adherence to the purpose and principles of Girl Scouting as embodied in the Promise, Law and program goals
Willingness to become a registered member of the organization
Twenty-one years of age or older
Current WSI, Lifeguard, Small Craft Safety, First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer certifications from nationally recognized certifying body (Required)
Strong knowledge of ACA, GSUSA and state waterfront standards and strong risk management skills
Ability and experience in supervising and teaching staff and campers in the outdoors
Ability to organize and plan daily schedule of program area
Ability and willingness to handle rough and uneven terrain and the day-to-day rigor of camp life
Possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers and staff
Ability to handle long hours on the waterfront, and lift or move heavy objects on a regular basis
At least six weeks previous experience in a management/supervisory position at a similar aquatic area
A fun summer in a beautiful outdoor setting in Maine, helping to assure girls have a safe and memorable time at camp. You will also have access to swimming in a pristine pond, canoeing/funyaking, and hiking trails. Meals and lodging are included.
