Summary:The Lifeguard/Unit Assistant will help prevent injury and illness on the waterfront and in boating. Lifeguards will teach both swimming and boating skills to campers. Lifeguards will also act as Unit Assistants when not on the waterfront..
Reports to:Waterfront Director and Unit Leader
Assists in inspecting equipment, and making repairs to aquatics equipment.
Assists in conducting initial and end-of-season inventory, and storing and keeping equipment in good condition.
Writes and teaches lessons, with help of Waterfront Director, that foster campers’ aquatic skills in relation to the Trail Master skill levels.
Keeps records on all campers; helps them progress from beginner to advanced levels.
Learns the likes/dislikes of each camper.
Recognizes and responds to opportunities for problem-solving in the group.
Helps each camper meet the goals established by the camp for camper development.
Assists in supervising all assigned aspects of the campers’ day, including morning reveille, kapers, meal times, rest hour, evening activities, getting ready for bed, and after-hours duty, as assigned.
Instructs campers in emergency procedures such as fire drills.
Prepares for and actively participates in staff trainings and meetings.
Sets a good example for campers and others, including cleanliness, punctuality, sharing clean-up and chores, sportsmanship, and table manners.
Encourages respect for personal property, camp equipments, and facilities.
Other duties as assigned.
This is a full-time summer position and you will be required to live on-site at camp. Lifeguard training is provided June 14-19 and Dates for Resident Camp June 26-August 2.
Camp Natarswi is located near the South gate of Baxter State Park. 18 mile from Millinocket Maine.
Acceptance of and adherence to the purpose and principles of Girl Scouting as embodied in the Promise, Law, and program goals
Willingness to become a registered member of the organization
At least eighteen years of age
Current Lifeguard, First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and Small Craft Safety certifications or willing to take training.
Training and experience in waterfront activities
·Previous youth camp staff experience or similar youth program experience
Ability to maintain equipment in excellent working condition
Ability to accept supervision and guidance, and teach an activity
Good character, integrity, adaptability, enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control
·Ability and willingness to handle rough and uneven terrain and the day-to-day rigor of camp life
Possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers and staff
