Day Camp Counselor

Reports to: Camp Director

 PURPOSE:    The day camp counselor will assist day-to-day activities of their unit, work with other staff and camp director to deliver age appropriate Girl Scout leadership program and  will assist in maintaining the health and safety of campers and camp community.



  1. Recognizes and responds to opportunities for problem-solving in the group.
  2. Learns the likes/dislikes of each camper.   
  3. Helps each camper meet the goals established by the camp for camper development. 
  4. Assists in guiding unit, group, and individual campers in participating successfully in all aspects of camp activities. 
  5. Carries out established roles for supervising camper health and safety. 
  6. Assists in developing age appropriate unit activity plans with campers based on the Girl Scout leadership program. 
  7. Assists in supervising all assigned aspects of the campers’ day including morning check in, kapers, meal times, rest hour, activities, pack up and departure. 
  8. Instructs campers in emergency procedures such as fire drills. 
  9. Prepares for and actively participates in staff training and meetings. 
  10. Sets a good example for campers and others including cleanliness, punctuality, sharing clean-up and chores, sportsmanship, and table manners. 
  11. Encourages respect for personal property, camp equipment and facilities. 
  12. Assists with opening and closing camp, making inventories and reports. 
  13. Prepare to deliver and assist campers with all aspects of the camp program. 
  14. Other duties as assigned.

Location Notes:Camps are held at varying locations around the state. Camp staff travel to camp location to deliver program. Looking for candidates from all parts of the state.
Job Requirements
  • Acceptance of and adherence to the purpose and principles of Girl Scouting as embodied in the promise, law, and program goals.  Willingness to become a registered member of the organization.
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications (we will train) 
  • Previous youth camp staff experience or similar youth program experience 
  • Ability to accept supervision and guidance and to teach camp activities 
  • Good character, integrity, adaptability, enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control 
  • Ability and willingness to handle rough and uneven terrain and the day-to-day rigor of camp life 
  • Possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers and staff
A fun summer in a beautiful outdoor setting in Maine, helping to assure girls have a safe and memorable time at camp.  The camp operates Mon-Fri. 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM.  Staff training provided and required.
