Come spend a fun summer at beautiful Camp Natarswi!

SUMMARY:              The Boating Director will direct  and supervise the camp’s  boating  program in accordance with GSUSA and ACA standards and state regulations. Boating Program areas: Canoe, Kayak and Sailing. Will also assist in swim area when needed
                                    Reports to: Program Director

1.     Assists with the set up of the boating area during staff training.

2.     Supervises the waterfront in the absence of the Waterfront Director.

3.     Works with the Waterfornt Director to carry out the waterfront emergency plan; takes part in regular emergency drills.

4.     Works with the waterfront staff to give campers a daily aquatic experience.  Assists in the enforcement of water-safety rules and regulations.

5.     Keeps records on all campers; helps them progress from beginner to advanced levels.

6.     Helps each camper meet the goals established by the camp for camper development.

7.     Writes lesson plans that will foster campers’ aquatic skills in relation to the Trail Master skill levels.

8.     Teaches and monitors proper use of equipment.  Conducts daily check of area and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair, and arranges for repairs, as needed.

9.     Sets a good example for campers and others, including cleanliness, punctuality, sharing clean-up and chores, sportsmanship, and table manners.

10.  Assists in supervising all assigned aspects of the campers’ day, including morning reveille, kapers, meal times, rest hour, evening activities, getting ready for bed, and after-hours duty, as assigned.

11.  Recognizes and responds to opportunities for problem-solving in the group.

12.  Encourages respect for personal property, camp equipment and facilities.

13.  Prepares for and actively participates in staff training.

Other duties as assigned

This is a full-time summer position and you will be required to live on-site at the camp. Dates for Resident Camp June 12-Aug,2 1016. Trainings for Certification needed will be offered Jun 18-22.

Location Notes:Camp Natarswi is located 18 miles north of Millinocket ME. Camp is before the South Entrance of Baxter State Park.
Job Requirements


·         Acceptance of and adherence to the purpose and principles of Girl Scouting as embodied in the promise, law, and program goals

·         Willingness to become a registered member of the organization

·         At least eighteen years of age

·         Current Lifeguard, Small Craft Safety, First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer certifications from a nationally recognized certifying body.

Sailing and /or Kayaking  training or certification or will to take training needed.

·         Ability and experience in supervising and teaching campers in the out-of-doors

·         Ability and willingness to handle rough and uneven terrain and the day-to-day rigor of camp life

·         Possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers and staff

·         Ability to handle long hours on the waterfront, and lift or move heavy objects on a regular basis.

·         Understanding of how to prevent and handle waterfront emergencies
