Special Messages:

Waldo County is situated in the Midcoast region of Maine, along the Penobscot Bay. It covers 730 miles of ridges, hills, fields, woods, lowland, large lakes, pocketsize ponds and meandering streams.

Waldo County was established on February 7, 1827. The county is divided into three districts, each overseen by one of three Commissioners.

The city of Belfast is the County seat, which is nestled on the rocky coast, along with the towns of Lincolnville, Northport, Searsport and Stockton Springs. These small historical towns are steeped with charm and history. Just up the river in the quaint town of Prospect is the new Penobscot Bay Narrows Bridge and Observatory. The views are breath-takingly beautiful.

A few miles inland from the coast you will find the unique small towns of Belmont, Morrill, Waldo, Swanville and Searsmont.

Further inland, experience the farmlands of Knox, Monroe, Freedom and Thorndike

just to name a few.

Whether you long for the coastline of the Atlantic Ocean or the rural rolling hills of farm land, we have it all here. The environment is pristine and beautiful. Come to Waldo County, where we truly can boast we live up to the state of Maine’s motto “The Way Life Should Be.”
