The Emergency Department Tech I (EDT-I) functions as an assistant to the Emergency Department medical providers, ED registered nurse (RN) and the organization in general through the activities of greeting and registering ED patients (and other hospital patient types) on a 24/7 basis. This team member also helps to manage all phone calls, paging systems, code alarms, and radios for the organization.
The EDT-I is responsible for facilitating the flow of activity of health care team members, patients, families, and visitors. This individual also transcribes and processes medical provider orders, processes department communication, and performs all clerical functions related to the department and other departments within the organization as needed.
The work priority will be established by the nurse-in-charge (NIC) and by the Lead Nursing Director (as needed).
Education: High school diploma or equivalent. One year customer service or data entry experience in a health care environment preferred. Computer experience is required with proficiency in data entry, able to retrieve, store, save data, and print. Basic medical terminology required but obtainable within a year from date of hire. Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) preferred and strongly encouraged to obtain within three years from date of hire.
Experience: Six months of previous patient care experience preferred but not required.
Licensure/Certification: Team member must complete and maintain CPR certification.
Required: High School Graduate or equivalent with a minimum of one year customer service or data entry experience.
Desired: One year previous admitting counselor or equivalent health insurance experience and knowledge of insurance, preferred.
