Assistant City Manager/ Director of Human Resources


The City of Augusta is seeking a highly responsible senior management position responsible for planning and directing the administrative and support activities of the City.  Also provides strategic hands-on operational leadership and oversight to human resources functions for the City of Augusta, e.g.; benefits, recruiting, employment, employee and labor relations, training and development, classification and compensation, and HR Systems. Responsible for developing, implementing, communicating, and administering said programs for the City.  Maintains standards as required by federal, state and organizational regulations and policies, labor agreements; and contributes as a management team participant in decisions and responsibilities that support the mission of the organization. Work involves conducting research and developing recommendations for broad policy alternatives for the achievement of the objectives of the City government as a whole. The incumbent exercises considerable initiative and independent judgment, and work is evaluated on the basis of results obtained and through conferences with the City Manager.

Applicant must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Public Policy or closely related field and significant demonstrated experience in Human Resource Management and Labor Relations / Collective Bargaining in a comparable size organization. Preferred candidates will possess a graduate level degree in a related field and progressive senior level leadership and increasing responsibility in a similar organizational setting. Incumbent must be able to pass a rigorous and thorough background investigation.

This is a full-time, exempt position with a comprehensive benefits package, including medical insurance, a pension, and generous paid time off.  Salary $91,582 to $114,462 annually, depending on the skills and background of the candidate.
