The University of Southern Maine (USM) seeks applicants for the tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Cyber Security. This position will teach a three-three course-load, advise students, advance scholarly activities, and provide services that support the students the Bachelor of Science in Cyber Security (BSCS) in the Department of Technology. This selected new faculty member will take on a leadership role as academic Director of USM's Cyber Security initiatives in developing and delivering of an online Master's Degree in Cyber Security and Cyber Range in collaboration with contributing partnerships.
The position is a 9-month appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. This faculty member will teach introductory information security, cyber-ethics, cryptography, digital forensics, system security, network security, organizational security, penetration testing, programming, and databases. The position will also include student mentoring cyber security internships, capstone experiences, and student portfolios. In addition to teaching, all full-time faculty members advise students, serve on committees, and participate in other activities that support the mission of the college as requested. This position will be required to teach both face-to-face and online courses.
The selected faculty member will need to pass a background check to serve as a liaison between the University and the information security community and work closely with employers to meet local workforce needs. Additional responsibilities include student academic advising, engaging in university, department and community committees and other kinds of service, and conducting research and scholarship activities. The targeted starting date for this position will begin in Fall 2019.
The Department of Technology (DOT) is located in the John Mitchell Center on University of Southern Maine's (USM) Gorham campus and offers: a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, a Bachelor of Science in Cyber Security, a Bachelor of Science in Technology Management, and a Bachelor of Science in Applied Technical Leadership. In addition, the DOT has developed multiple articulation agreements with regional Community College programs for BS degree completion.

Required: To be eligible for tenure track position, applicants must have a doctorate in Information Security, Cyber Security or related field. Applicants with a Masters degree in Information Security, Cyber Security or related field pursuit of PhD (ABD) in Information Security, Cyber Security or related field would be hired at lecture status until contractual completion of doctorate. Additional business, industry, governmental experiences, and/or prior teaching experience, or professional certifications is essential.
Preferred: Ph.D. A minimum of three years of actual industry experience in security operations is preferred, with certifications from accredited Information Security agencies; industry experience in the field; experience with online teaching; teaching experience in the University setting; course and program development, and exhibit a strong record of scholarly activity in high quality peer-reviewed scholarly journals and conferences.
