Operating from seven sites in Portland, Lewiston, and Bangor, Preble Street programs include the Resource Center, Food Programs, Maine Hunger Initiative, Veterans Housing Services, Logan Place, Florence House, Teen Center, Joe Kreisler Teen Shelter, First Place, the Anti-Trafficking Coalition, and Homeless Voices for Justice.
A full time Avesta Housing Support Worker position is currently available in Portland. As part of a dynamic team at Preble Street, the Housing Support Worker will work closely with Avesta property managers and residents, as well as community providers to support residents of Avesta’s affordable housing communities in accessing services and maintaining housing through outreach, assessment, and comprehensive casework services. The primary role is to provide case management to ensure residential stability and success for tenants in community-based Avesta housing. This position is mostly field based; moving between the Portland housing sites, but is embedded at Avesta and is thus part of both the Preble Street and Avesta teams.
Requirements include a Bachelor's degree in social work or a related field. Candidates must have a valid driver's license and a personal vehicle available for work use (with reimbursement for mileage).
Additional requirements of the position include an understanding of and positive regard for people who are homeless or live in poverty; knowledge of social work theory and practice; familiarity with community resources; understanding of housing challenges for people coming out of homelessness; good verbal and written communication skills; and the ability to work independently and as a team member.
This position offers competitive pay at a rate of $15.39 per hour, which annualizes to $32,000.
