The Town of Wells, known as one of Maine’s premiere coastal communities with a seasonal population of approximately 40,000, is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Deputy Assessor.
The Deputy Assessor is responsible for providing varied technical, clerical and administrative work in support of the Assessor who determines the value of all taxable real estate and personal property in the Town of Wells. The Assessing Department operates under the guidelines of the Maine Revenue Service as prescribed by Legislative Law. State laws govern the work performed and in some cases may require additional interpretation; judgment is needed to locate, select and apply the most pertinent practice, procedure, regulation or guideline. The Deputy Assessor maintains detailed and accurate records including property ownership transfers, property deed information, building permits and map and parcel changes. The Deputy Assessor frequently visits and inspects properties to record the details needed to determine the assessed real and personal property values for the Town.
This is a full-time/non-exempt union status position, with a starting hourly wage of $23.63 per hour. The Town of Wells offers a comprehensive benefits package; including health insurance, paid time off, retirement, educational assistance and an incentive based Wellness Program.
Qualifications: Applicants should have a High School diploma or equivalent and must have 1-3 years of related work experience; experience with Assessing or real estate appraisal is a plus. CMA preferred and the ability to obtain CMA within 3 years of appointment is required.
Applicants should have excellent technological, communication and organizational skills with the ability to deal effectively and equitably with staff, the public, other agencies and public officials.
