Statement of Job:

The University of Southern Maine seeks an individual to join its Facilities Management Department as a Supervisor for our Grounds team on the Portland Campus.

The Facilities Maintenance Supervisor will supervise a group of Grounds employees on the Portland campus by prioritizing, assigning and scheduling work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures, and maintain a healthy and safe working environment; making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations. This position will ultimately be responsible for all things Ground related primarily on the Portland campus and as needed on the Gorham campus for events, projects. This position will work as needed to promote a strong and cohesive Grounds team that supports the University's student focused every day mission on all USM campuses.

Pays $17.66 per hour with a work schedule of Monday through Friday, 7:00am - 3:00pm.

Qualifications:

Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) and sufficient experience, including seven years of grounds related work experience which should include two years lead or supervisory experience.
  • Valid Maine driver's license and ability to drive University vehicles per APL requirements
  • Effective communication skills
  • Customer Service knowledge & experience
  • Knowledge of cleaning & sanitizing practices
  • Knowledge & experience operating and troubleshooting Grounds machines & equipment
  • Supervisory knowledge & experience
  • Experience with computers and related software applications
  • The ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects and be capable of standing for long periods of time and flexible enough for bending and reaching.
