HEO/Landfill Utility Person I
The City of Augusta Public Works Department, Hatch Hill Bureau, is seeking a skilled operator of heavy or light equipment and Class B trucks to perform work related to Hatch Hill and to support the landfilling and recycling operations. Position also serves as the backup Scale Operator which involves handling cash, operation of a computerized scale management system and reconciling charge accounts. Work hours vary. Standard workweek for Hatch Hill is Tuesday through Saturday from 7:45am to 4:15pm.
Candidates must possess demonstrated ability in operation of heavy equipment, including Class B trucks used in construction, maintenance and snow removal tasks related to Public Works operations. Examples of equipment operated may include: front-end loaders, rollers, street sweepers, bulldozers, loader backhoes, the Landfill Compactor and other specialized equipment some related to winter operations such as plowing and sanding. and performs manual labor as required. Customer service skills and ability to run a computerized cash register system preferred.
Qualified candidates will possess a high school diploma or GED and must possess a valid CDL A or B State of Maine commercial motor vehicle operator's license with an excellent driving record. A minimum of one year of related experience with HEO is required, three or more years is preferred. Applicants must reside within 25 road miles of the Augusta Public Works Garage. Prior cash register and customer service experience preferred. Able to lift 50lbs and pass a pre-screening physical.
This is a full-time, non-exempt position with excellent benefits, paid time off and a pension plan. Pay Range Band 3 - $16.39 to $18.44 per hour
