MECHANIC I /II- Full Time
The City of Augusta Public Works is seeking an individual who is skilled in all phases of vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair. Mechanic I / II will perform troubleshooting, diagnostics and repair work on vehicles and heavy equipment for our Central Garage. Work involves gas and diesel engine repair, small engines, welding & cutting, drive train, electrical, hydraulics and troubleshooting work. Perform both light & heavy duty vehicle inspections, share knowledge with other workers, follow detailed work instructions (oral & written), and assist in stockroom inventory. Work is performed under the direction of the Fleet Service Manager and is reviewed for efficiency and quality of work.
Qualified candidates will possess HS or Vocational school or other specialized mechanic training and five (5) years’ experience as an automotive/equipment mechanic. Must have experience working with Heavy Equipment. Must possess a valid State of Maine Motor Vehicle Inspection License (A & D) and a current, valid, clean CDL Class A or B or the ability to obtain licensure within one year (Mechanic I). Position is classified as safety sensitive subjecting employee to random drug and alcohol testing program prescribed by FHWA rules and the City of Augusta, and Drug & Alcohol Policy and Testing Procedures as a condition of employment. As a condition of employment, the City requires new employees in this unit to reside within 25 miles of Augusta public works garage.
Pay Range Mechanic II: B1:$18.73 to $21.05 hr.
Pay Range Mechanic I: B3: $16.39 to $18.44 hr.
