Statement of Job:

The School of Nursing at the University of Southern Maine invites applications for anticipated Part Time Faculty openings for Spring semester 2019. There are multiple positions open for teaching 1 to 4 credit courses to our baccalaureate pre-licensure nursing students.

These positions could involve teaching:
  • fundamentals skills (2 credits, four hours a week for 14 weeks at the USM SON in Portland) or
  • simulation/skills labs (1 credit, four hours a week for 7 weeks at the USM SON in Portland), or
  • entry level medical surgical clinicals (8 hours a week for 14 weeks at hospitals in Brunswick, Biddeford, Lewiston or Portland) or
  • senior level medical surgical clinicals (2 credits, 8 hours a week for 7 weeks at hospitals in Portland or Lewiston) or
  • a combination of the above courses. We will work with the candidates to find the best match to skill, experience and availability.

14 week courses begin January 22 nd and end May 11 th . 7 week courses begin January 22 nd and end mid March or start mid March and end May 11 th .

Responsibilities include orienting, supervising, grading and evaluating pre-licensure nursing students, clinical and laboratory sections will have up to 8 students per faculty.

Part-time faculty members are paid on a credit hour basis based on prior college teaching experience. In addition, USM employees can use their USM Card to access the library, Cigna Employee Assistance Plan, and fitness center (s). USM also offers part-time faculty the opportunity for development frequently through our Center for Collaboration and Development (CCD) and the chance to get an online teaching certification and training through CTEL, in addition to other developmental opportunities open to all staff throughout the year.

Required: BS or equivalent in Nursing from accredited program, current active Maine RN license, able to meet employment criteria including background check, immunizations, BLS/CPR certification and current TB testing. Expertise is entry level nursing skills and recent practice in medical surgical/adult and older adult health acute care nursing is required.

Preferred: Masters or Doctorate in Nursing and college level teaching expertise.
