The Town of Scarborough is seeking a full-time Patrol Officer to fulfill general police responsibilities necessary to the stability and safety of the community. Duties will be in the areas of preventative patrol and traffic patrol. Responsibilities may include identifying criminal offenders and criminal activity and, where appropriate, apprehending offenders and participating in subsequent court proceedings; aiding individuals who are in danger of physical harm; facilitating the movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic; identifying problems that are potentially serious law enforcement or governmental problems; creating and maintaining a feeling of security in the community; promoting and preserving the peace and providing other services on an emergency basis.
Position requirements: A minimum of a high school diploma or its equivalent is required; official certification as a full time police officer holding a license from the Maine Criminal Justice Academy or the ability to obtain such license is required; possession or ability to obtain a valid class C State of Maine Motor Vehicle Operators License. Additionally, candidates must have strong personal computer skills as well as the ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in the specific field. Candidates will be required to establish and maintain effective working relationships with members of the community, the police department, and other agencies. Candidates are required to have the ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Any equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered at the Town’s discretion.

The Scarborough Town Hall is located at 259 U.S. Route 1, just south of the junction of Route 1 and Black Point Road/Gorham Road.
