Payroll Specialist Full Time

The Audit department is seeking an individual for 40 hours a week to perform support/clerical work in processing payroll transactions and maintaining records in the position of PAYROLL SPECIALIST. Responsibilities include ensuring the timely and accurate submission and processing of payrolls for the City of Augusta. This position also coordinates receipt of data, calculating special payments, verifying accuracy of and entering data into automated payroll system, answers employee inquiries and resolves complex problems. Trains other in payroll procedures and processing in order to maintain or improve processes. Work is performed in adherence to established policies and procedures.
Also: calculates/ verifies special pay calculations (overtime, shift differential, benefit and leave calculations, etc.) and processes retroactive adjustments to salaries and account codes. Completes and processes various reports for pensions, year-end tax reporting such as W-2’s and other state/federal wage verifications, deductions, and wage attachments.
Ideal candidate will have a degree in a related field and minimum of four (4) years of experience in payroll / administrative work. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills required. Able to maintain confidential personnel information, and work under time sensitive deadlines and work pressure from a fast-paced environment. Competitive wages and benefits:
