Project Position - limited duration position expected to last until 6/30/19 - Interested in working in one of the most dynamic cities in the northeast? Want to work in a fast paced and collaborative environment? We are seeking candidates with excellent communication skills for a project planner position with the Department of Planning and Urban Development, to engage in development review and to undertake planning initiatives for the sustained growth and vitality of Portland, Maine. This position is primarily focused on reviewing site plan applications for proposed developments current project range from multifamily and commercial project to mixed used projects proposed for 800,000 s.f., but will also involve long range planning and special projects. Tasks involve review of development projects for compliance with municipal land use codes, standards, and design guidelines, including but not limited to zoning, site plan, subdivision and historic preservation. Work requires project management, policy analysis and the management of processes to facilitate extensive community involvement. Excellent written and oral communication skills needed. Excellent human relations and negotiation skills required. Municipal planning experience and master’s degree in planning or closely related field or equivalent combination preferred. Strong technical skills including GIS and other analytical software desired. Offers of employment are contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory criminal background check. Starting pay rate $914.63/week.
