Maine-based Pika Energy seeks an experienced Senior Software Engineer to lead software development for the monitoring and control of distributed clean energy systems. The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to architect, develop, test, release, and maintain complex software and database systems.  This person will bring the leadership and experience to manage multiple projects with competing priorities to improve performance of existing systems and quickly add new functionality.

Pika Energy’s expanding line of clean energy products includes inverters, power converters, and energy storage systems which are installed across the USA. Pika’s products use an advanced 380VDC nanogrid technology to manage distributed generation, targeting the fast-growing markets for solar and batteries.

Qualifications

  • 4-year engineering degree

  • MINIMUM 5 years experience in software development

  • Team leadership including mentoring of team members

  • Experience architecting linux server and database platforms

  •  Understanding of contemporary network security best-practices

Responsibilities

  • Architect systems involving bidirectional monitoring and control of IoT devices

  • Deploy and oversee IoT network security processes including authorization, authentication and encryption

  • Contribute to overall company software strategy

  • Oversee / execute development of user interfaces for customers and technical service

  • Provide strong team collaboration, leadership, mentoring and guidance

  • Interface and work closely with Pika strategic partners on special projects and opportunities

  • Manage contracts with external software developers

Required Skills/Experience

  • Good documentation and team-oriented practices

  • Project Management, including schedules, budgets, and resource management

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work in an extremely fast-paced, collaborative environment

  • REST API development and maintenance

  • Relational database administration

  • Experience coding for mobile and web-based systems

  • Experience developing with embedded Linux systems

Great-to-have

  • Go, Python, Javascript (React) experience

  • Knowledge of IoT-appropriate (scalable) protocols e.g. MQTT

  • Embedded (“bare metal”) microprocessor experience

  • UI design and implementation

  • Full stack experience with server-side scripting and react-javascript front end

  • Cloud engineer, cloud architecture with experience in IoT, AWS deployments, MySQL

  • Experience with startups and rapidly-scaling companies

  • Experience or demonstrated interest in distributed energy systems

  • Hacky Sack and/or Ultimate Frisbee skills

  • Based out of Pika headquarters in Westbrook, ME

  • Minor travel

Compensation

This position will be compensated competitively through salary, benefit package (including healthcare/401K/Life/Disability), and equity participation.
