Maine Medical Partners Surgical Care is seeking a surgical oncologist to join their well-established team in Portland, Maine.
The ideal candidate would have an interest in cytoreductive surgery with heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy, melanoma, and soft tissue neoplasia with some experience in hepatopancreatobiliarycancer. Experience with robotic surgery and an interest in academic surgery, demonstrable experience and commitment to cancer clinical trials and an interest in resident education is highly desirable. Opportunities for research exist in clinical, translational, and basic science.
Candidates are expected to Board Certified/Eligible in general surgery and have completed a residency in general surgery and have either completed a Society of Surgical Oncology accredited Fellowship or have board certification in advance of Surgical Oncology.
Maine Medical Center (MMC) has 637 licensed beds and is the state's leading tertiary care hospital and Level I Trauma Center, with a full complement of residencies (including surgery) and fellowships and integration with Tufts University Medical School, serving as the flagship of MaineHealth's integrated delivery system in southern and central Maine and New Hampshire.MMC currently supports over 240 residents and fellows in 14 residencies and 9 fellowships approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, and the position involves teaching and mentoring residents from Maine Medical Center's General Surgery Residency Program, and medical students from the Maine Medical Center-Tufts University School of Medicine Medical School Program. The selected candidate will be expected to pursue an appointment at the appropriate rank at Tufts University School of Medicine.
The Division of Surgical Oncology is part of The Maine Medical Center Cancer Institute (MMCCI). The division consists of 4 sections: General Surgical Oncology, Endocrine Surgery, Breast Surgery, and Thoracic Surgery. The division employs 17 providers including sevenSurgeons and tenAdvancedPractice Providers. They are currently two multidisciplinary clinics: the Breast Care Center (breast cancer program), and Thoracic Oncology. Additional surgical oncology practices outside of the Division includegynecology, neuro-, and urologic oncology.
