This position is initially responsible for the management and training of all undergraduate (MMA) and CPMD firefighting training. As well, the individual is responsible for the management of the fire training facility at CPMD in Bucksport.

This position involves independent administrative capabilities in the performance and direction of activities to both manage the fire training facility and the fire training program(s). Marketing will be a key factor in the development of increased training and business opportunities. This position may

require extensive travel due to the importance of the marketing aspect of the training and business plan(s).

This position will manage firefighting training, and First Aid/CPR/AED training, as well as the ongoing maintenance of the firefighting equipment and facility. Other responsibilities include working with administrative staff to schedule all fire training class lectures and live fire training Position is

responsible, in coordination with Dean of Faculty and/or Director of CPMD, for hiring assistant

instructors and teaching assistants as needed for in-class lectures and lab instruction for basic fire training, and CPMD Basic/Advanced Fire Training as well as a rotational pool for all scheduled live burn dates.

Employee is responsible for training all instructors and TAs in approved USCG/NFPA instructional methods to include creating and providing an SOP and other related training documents. This is a full- time, benefits eligible, calendar-year, confidential position.

Duties & Responsibilities

· The safety and welfare of the students and staff on the burn field is the number one priority.

· Employee must follow and ensure all others follow all NFPA 1403 “Live Fire Evolution Safety Standards”.

· Responsible for identifying needed repairs, overseeing the repairs and testing of completed repairs of the fire training facility.

· Responsible for the safe storage, operation, maintenance, testing and instruction in use of the fire facility’s firefighting equipment.

· Primary instructor for all USCG/STCW level marine firefighting lectures and labs to the license

track - freshman. Assistant/Adjunct instructors may provide lectures and labs at the needs of the program.

· Teach at the undergraduate level in areas allocated by the Department Head or Dean.

· Contribute to the development, planning and implementation of a high-quality curriculum.

· Assist in the development of learning materials, preparing lesson plans, and maintaining records to monitor student progress, achievement, and attendance.

· Develops and teaches all other marine or land based firefighting classes or training for other groups as required – including STCW and non-STCW approvals and requirements.

· Develops coursework, some for U.S. Coast Guard approval, utilizing International Maritime Organization (IMO) format.

· Responsible for the submission of specifically developed/created coursework to the USCG for approval of newly generated type training. As well as, responsible for the control of content, updates as necessary and submission for re-approval of all USCG approved fire courses – on five- year cycles.

· Writes and updates safety management manual and standard operating procedures (SOP) for all fire-related training.

· Responsible for market research to determine target audience’s needs, wants, interests and other relevant factors such as Electric Vehicle transport and shipboard battery propulsion

· In conjunction with Director CPMD, responsible for the ongoing maintenance and management of the fire training facility.

· Responsible for working with Human Resources to hire teaching assistants and instructors abiding by MMA hiring policies and procedures in the process.

· Responsible for ensuring safety standards are adhered to as person-in-charge of high-risk fire training. Acts as on-site incident commander and implements all NFPA regulations on the fire field.

· Primary Lead for all live burn training activities. Assistant instructor may act in the position of primary lead at the needs of the program.

· Responsible for coordination of and supervision of Basic Safety Training (BST) of MMA

underclassmen. This includes Personal Safety & Social Responsibility (PSSR), First Aid & CPR, Personal Survival Techniques (PST) and Basic Fire Fighting

· Knowledge of fire behavior; organizational structure, function and operations; human behavior during fire; injury causes/prevention; hazard identification and correction; basic fire protection systems and devices; emergency reporting; firefighter personal protective equipment; special needs for those with disabilities; and time management.

· Demonstrable experience in marketing analytics of the firefighting communities needs - Shoreside and Marine in nature, as well as shoreside to marine.

· Thorough understanding of type marketing elements to be used for coordinated expansion of training opportunities with commercial awareness partnered with a creative mind.

· Ability to perform top-level information analysis including the ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize and/or reference data, statutes; and/or guidelines; and/or group, rank, investigate and diagnose. Requires discretion to determine and reference information to

establish standards to recognize interactive effects and relationships.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field.

· Extensive Engineering/project management and prior facilities management experience

· Employee must meet the NFPA 1041 Standards for Fire Service Instructor Professional Qualifications.

· Ability to teach NFPA firefighting and USCG approved Basic and Advanced Shipboard Firefighting classes and First Aid & CPR Experience with NFPA 1402 facilities.

· Firefighter I, Fire Instructor I, Fire Officer I certification is required.

· EMT 1. Approved certification to instruct and oversee First Aid & CPR training.

· Be or have the ability to become a USCG Approved Basic/Advanced Shipboard Firefighting Instructor

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Master’s degree, or other advanced degree, in a relevant field.

· Experience teaching maritime subjects in a higher-education setting.

· Familiarity with electronic and digital advancements in maritime operations.

· Experience with curriculum development

· Firefighter II, Fire Instructor II, and Fire Officer II certification is preferred.

· ProBoard certification

· U.S.C.G. License

· Ability to work on project site in inclement weather

· Ability to work irregular / extended hours/weeks, including evenings and weekend duties as required
