The University of Maine at Augusta is seeking qualified applicants for a Lecturer of Chemistry based on our Bangor campus. We seek candidates whose teaching, scholarship, and mentorship support our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. This appointment will begin fall semester 2024.

This full-time academic year, twelve-credit hour teaching load, will include online and campus-based courses in support of our Allied Health programs (dental, veterinary technology, nursing), the Bachelor of Arts in Biology degree, and the core curriculum. Teaching assignments may include lecture and laboratory sections of chemistry for life sciences, fundamentals of chemistry, laboratory courses for non-majors, and courses in the chosen candidate's area of expertise. Courses will be taught using a variety of modalities including in-person, hybrid offerings, and asynchronous online instruction. The duties of this position may also include laboratory management and supporting the university's Early College program.

UMA faculty are expected to be excellent teachers, responsive to changing professional needs, committed to innovative delivery of instruction resulting in improved student learning, committed to effective use of technology including distance learning, involved in scholarly activities as appropriate to the appointment, and to provide service to the community, College, and University.

UMA serves a mix of traditional and non-traditional students and offers a wide array of liberal arts and professional programs leading to certificates, associate, baccalaureate, and master's degrees. Programs are delivered on campus and using a network of University centers and sites across the state and internationally. The University offers general education and degree-specific courses using in-person, hyflex, distance synchronous, and online instruction. The successful candidate will be active in university service through student advising, curriculum development, committee activity, and community outreach.

Salary: A typical salary for this academic year (September through May) appointment is in the mid-to-high 40s and is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications: The successful candidate will be broadly trained in chemistry, hold a Master's degree in chemistry or a closely related discipline, have prior college teaching experience, and be able to teach in-person, hybrid, and asynchronous chemistry courses for allied health students and non-majors.

Preferred Qualifications: ABD or Ph.D. in chemistry or a closely related discipline. Experience using new technologies in teaching, course or curriculum development, discipline-related work experience, laboratory management, being committed to excellence in undergraduate education, and teaching nontraditional students. Experience working with diverse student populations and an interest in contributing to UMA's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives.
