We believe that the psychological problems and negative social consequences which result from any chronic illness, including addiction, always improve with effective medical treatment.

We treat opioid dependence as a brain dysfunction that can be treated with medication, aided by supportive, cognitive-behavioral or psychiatric therapies which correspond to the assessed needs of each patient. CAP's practice is in accord with the medical model of treatment which has demonstrated its efficacy in so many other Axis 1 (psychiatric) Disorders.

CAP clinic staff are known worldwide for high quality patient care and clinical research. They have always incorporated advances in treatment, whether in medication, alternative therapies or psychosocial intervention, and are actively engaged in advocating for respectful, science-based treatment practice, in the US and abroad. CAP is best known for championing the treatment of opioid addicts with adequate methadone doses that stop craving and substance abuse. We offer a medical model of methadone maintenance in clinics where medical experts determine the values and practices of the treatment team.
