Community Health and Counseling Services (CHCS)

CHCS is a federal government contractor subject to the provisions of the Vietnam Era Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA) of 1974, as amended (38 U.S.C. §4212), which requires government contractors to take affirmative action to employ and advance in employment qualified protected veterans and qualified individuals with disabilities. 

 CHCS is one of the few combined home health and behavioral health care agencies in the State of Maine, Community Health and Counseling Services combines mutually supportive programs and collaborative relationships with other health care providers to serve both the physical and psychological aspects of an individual's well-being.

These services are offered in homes, schools, and the area offices of CHCS in central, eastern and northern Maine. The size of the CHCS service area in Maine covers over 22,000 square miles, with 20 locations from Fort Kent to Westbrook and Calais to Dover Foxcroft, Maine.

Through a continuum of care and support, Community Health and Counseling Services touches the lives of thousands of people each year, providing needed services to people and their families in their community in a cost-effective way.

CHCS' flexible benefit plan offers a variety of benefit options for individuals to select to meet their own individual needs.

Health Insurance

Full-time employees are provided with employer benefit dollars, which covers 89% of an individual  plan on the Open Access Plus (In & Out of Network) plan with Health Savings Account.  Dependent coverage is also available at a shared expense.

In addition to the health plan, CHCS contributes $100 per month into an Health Savings Account for full-time employees who enroll in the health plan. 

The Group Medical Insurance is available through Cigna Healthcare.  The health plan also offers Cigna Medical Telehealth.  Cigna Medical Telehealth connection lets you get the care you need - including most prescriptions for a wide range of minor conditions.  Once registered, CHCS employees can connect with board-certified doctors via secure video chat or phone, without leaving the home or office.

Dental Insurance
Employees are offered a choice of two dental plans at a shared expense.
Orthodontia coverage for dependent children and adults is included in the dental plan.

Vision Insurance
A Vision benefit plan is available as a voluntary benefit. 

Health, Dental and Vision coverage is available for domestic partners.

Life Insurance:
CHCS provides Full-time employees one times an employees annual salary in life insurance and offers the option to purchase additional life insurance coverage up to five times the employee's annual salary.

Dependent Life Insurance:
Employees working 20+ hours per week are eligible to purchase additional life insurance for their spouse and/or child(ren) up to the Guaranteed Issue amount.

Long Term Disability Insurance
CHCS provides 100% of the premium for long term disability insurance to all full-time employees.

Reimbursement Accounts
Medical Reimbursement Account with an annual contribution limit of $2,400.
Dependent Care Reimbursement Account with an annual contribution limit of $5,000.

Three voluntary Aflac benefit plans are available:
Accident
Cancer
Hospital Advantage Plan

Part-time employees who work a minimum average of 20 hours or more per week are eligible to voluntarily purchase medical, dental and vision insurance and are offered pro-rated employer benefit dollars.  CHCS also contributes to the Health Savings Account for those part-time employees who enroll in the health plan.  Supplemental life insurance and medical and dependent care reimbursement accounts are available on a voluntary basis.
